At Benedict Academy, we believe that Personal, Social, Health and Economic development of children is essential to prepare them for life's opportunities and challenges; supporting them today as well as in the future.
We teach our PSHE curriculum in line with our pedagogical approach, explicitly teaching children the knowledge and skills that they need to be successful. We have chosen to implement the curriculum in line with 'Jigsaw' - bringing together emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning.
Our whole school approach ensures that PSHE coverage is themed by half termly topics; from 'Being me in my world', to 'Celebrating differences', 'Dreams and goals' to 'Healthy me'. Where appropriate, we make links to wider curriculum areas, including History, Science and PSHE.
We compliment our PSHE coverage with Thrive: Each class has a specific target and action plan to focus on, that relates back to age-appropriate developmental strands. These action plans allow us to provide adaptations to our PSHE lessons, ensuring that the knowledge and skills taught can be applied in real live circumstances.
Through PSHE and within assemblies, we teach children about relationships education; including how to having caring family and friend relationships, respectful relationships, online relationships, and how to stay safe. This is in addition to the pupils' Relationships and Sex Education, which is adapted from the Christopher Winter Project scheme of work, and taught progressively to each year group.
For our children who require additional support, they have access to social skills groups or life skill interventions.
