We aim to provide all pupils within early years with a broad and balanced curriculum, with reading at its heart. We use stories to expose pupils to a range of narratives and plots that inform their knowledge and understanding of the seven strands of the Early Years Framework.
We seek to provide both windows to other ways of life and a range of different cultures, but also provide space for pupils to see themselves in the topics that they explore during their time within Early Years. We intend to ensure we provide an education that both supports and challenges all pupils to achieve their best, and thoroughly prepares them for the transition into Year 1.
At Benedict Academy, we use the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework in conjunction with the learning statements from the Development Matters 2023 Framework to support our planning and assessment across the phase for both nursery and reception. By the end of Reception, pupils will be assessed against the Early Learning Goals, which have three prime areas and four specific areas.
