At Benedict Academy, we understand that a Music education offers young people the chance to understand, perform and create in an aural dimension that often sits outside our capacity to describe in words. Our Music curriculum helps children to develop their musicality, critically engage with music, but also encourage curiosity to explore it further inside and outside of school.
Our Music curriculum has been designed to help pupils to develop their schematic framework, and to understand, discuss, perform, and create music using both instruments and voices. This includes singing and playing accurately and expressively both aurally and from musical notation. Furthermore, it gives children opportunities to critically engage with music, allowing them to understand, explore and communicate different musical styles. Pupils are welcomed to blend their music learning at school with their own cultures and backgrounds.
As with all of our curriculum areas, we ensure that lessons are inclusive by supporting pupils with sensory or physical needs; for example using ear defenders for pupils that have auditory sensory sensitivities.
