We teach Religious Education because we understand both the individual and wider cultural capital that it gives children.
RE at Benedict Academy focusses on the intellectual, cognitive and effective development of children by helping them to understand the brilliantly diverse society that surrounds them. We do this by empowering pupils with the knowledge of the different world religions and the viewpoints of different people. It brings a clear foundation of cultural capital, from which pupils can seek to understand and interrogate the world around them. As with other foundation subjects, we are aware that to discuss religious concepts, a deep understanding of appropriate vocabulary is needed. Therefore, we teach this explicitly, and link it to symbols or images.
